Can I voluntarily surrender my licence?
Under section 61 of the Real Estate Agents Act 2008 you can voluntarily surrender your licence by written notice to the Registrar.
The Registrar will cancel the licence and record the cancellation in the register. Cancellation means that you can no longer carry out real estate agency work.
If you wish to carry out real estate agency work after your licence has been cancelled, you will have to complete a new application for a licence and meet the requirements of the 2008 Act.
To surrender your licence please complete the form Notice of Voluntary Surrender of Licence [PDF,81.78kb].
Will I get a refund on my fees and levies?
Your fees and levies will not be refunded if you decide to surrender your licence.
We will refund the levies (pro-rated) if the licensee has passed away. To request this refund you need to get the estate’s solicitor to write to us requesting this refund (once probate has been granted).
If probate is not necessary, get the estate’s solicitor to write to us confirming this and requesting the refund. This letter needs to include a copy of the death certificate and a copy of the will.
You also need to provide us with a deposit slip or a copy of a bank statement for the account into which the money is to be paid.
