Code of Professional Conduct and Client Care
The Code of Professional Conduct and Client Care sets out the standard of professional conduct and client care required of real estate agents. It applies to all aspects of real estate agency work and is used as a reference point for discipline.
The Code covers:
- standards of professional competence and conduct
- reporting misconduct or unsatisfactory conduct
- awareness of duties and obligations under the Act
- client care and dealings with customers
- obligations to provide information about complaints.
As well as complying with the Act and Regulations, any person working in the real estate industry is required to comply with the Code of Professional Conduct and Client Care.
If someone does break the law, or falls short of the standard set out in the Code, this may constitute unsatisfactory conduct or misconduct depending on how far short of the standard the conduct is found to be.
The Code must be displayed in real estate offices and be available to anyone on request.
