26/11/2012

Real Estate Agents Authority (REAA) Chief Executive, Kevin Lampen-Smith, is today calling for applications from capable and experienced organisations to become approved continuing education providers for real estate licensees in 2013 and 2014.

“2013 is the second year that about 12,000 licensees will need to complete continuing education. Continuing education is an important tool the REAA uses to help improved standards in the real estate industry, increase professionalism and protect buyers and sellers” said Mr Lampen-Smith.

“The mandated continuing education topic for 2013 is “the legal and physical description and representation of real estate” and will include searching and interpreting titles, the basics of land ownership and compliance and the basics of building structures.”

Successful applicants will be offered a contract for two years. Those organisations that were granted approved provider status for the 2012 calendar year will be offered contracts for 2013 and 2014 and do not need to apply again.

The REAA is working with the Open Polytechnic to develop the course materials for 2013 and input has been provided by the industry. Learning objectives, the course curriculum and course materials will be available to contracted providers in mid December 2012. This will enable providers to begin training delivery in the New Year.

To apply to become a provider download the Call for Applications document from the REAA’s website www.reaa.govt.nz.
