  • Head of Engagement, Insights and Education (EIE)

    REA is seeking an inspirational leader to lead its Engagement, Insights and Education (EIE) team. Reporting to the Chief Executive and a key member of the senior leadership team, this role has strategic oversight and accountability for REA’s stakeholder engagement, media, communications, data and insights, and education activities. As a credible senior leader, they will have a strategic mindset and a strong relationship focus with experience leading teams in regulated environments.

    What you will do

    In this role you will:

    • give a strategic focus to REA’s engagement, communications, insights and education work
    • drive delivery of EIE’s work, ensuring connection and understanding with all parts of REA
    • oversee REA’s engagement, communication, insights and education strategies and frameworks, utilising data and insights to support licensees to meet high standards, to identify drivers of risk and prevent consumer harm
    • lead REA’s continuing professional development and education services for the real estate sector
    • support distribution of clear guidance and information for consumers and licensees across digital and non-digital channels and networks such as rea.govt.nz and settled.govt.nz.

  • Legal Operations and Litigation Coordinator

    The role

    This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of busy legal team and help promote and protect the interests of real estate consumers in New Zealand. The Legal Operations and Litigation Coordinator is an integral, trusted and highly valued member of the legal team and helps support our lawyers to deliver efficient, effective, and timely services.

     As the Legal Operations and Litigation Coordinator you’ll be:

    • Supporting our legal operations by registering, processing and forwarding correspondence for the Real Estate Disciplinary Tribunal and legal counsel to relevant staff.
    • Maintaining information resources such as legal opinion and decision registers. 
    • Providing general administrative assistance including litigation file management, bundle preparation and, diarising of events.
    • Preparing, copying and distributing litigation files to REA’s legal counsel.
    • Updating cases in client management and workflow technology systems.
    • Working closely with our Regulatory Compliance team to co-ordinate advice on CAC complaints and litigation files. 
    • Providing support to the REA Privacy Officer in relation to REA’s obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 and assisting REA staff with REA’s processes under the Official Information Act. 
    • Assisting the Legal Team and REA staff with preparing reports and analyses in relation to reporting obligations.

    About you

    We’re looking for someone who pays attention to detail, is well organised with a strong work ethic, has experience working in a legal, regulatory or case management environment, and has knowledge and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

    A relevant tertiary qualification and knowledge of regulatory environments would be an advantage but is not essential.

  • IT Support Engineer

    The Role

    The IT Support Engineer is responsible for providing core business IT support to REA staff with a focus on technology, infrastructure, networks, system administration, and hardware.

    This role is the “boots on the ground” for level 1 and 2 IT support including responsibility for incident management, resolution, and escalation at the REA while maintaining agreed internal Service Levels.

    This role will also support the on-going technology needs of REA to ensure that staff have the tools and technology required to be effective and efficient in their roles and pro-actively identifying technology solutions to address business problems.

    About You

    You will have a at least 3 years of relevant IT work experience.  A tertiary level IT qualification, IT industry certification Microsoft or ITIL would also be an advantage.  You’re looking for a role to make the most of your proven experience to effectively and efficiently troubleshoot for a broad range of IT related issues. This is a great opportunity for someone who has desktop experience who wants to move into an infrastructure role.

  • Principal Solicitor (fixed term 18 months)

    About the role

    This is a newly established role to support the additional regulatory and legal changes occurring in the real estate landscape. You will have the opportunity to build and lead an internal litigation / tribunal practice dealing with matters that arise from consumer complaints, licencing and professional conduct and standard matters, as well as:

    • manage and run tribunal (and some court) case files end to end
    • contribute to the development of REA’s regulatory approach and decision making principles
    • advise on legal and regulatory policy issues to support regulatory decision making and effectiveness
    • support, mentor and contributing to the development of less senior colleagues
    • providing robust legal advice to the senior leadership team and other colleagues team

    About you

    You will be an experienced litigator with 5+ years PQE, preferably with at least 3 of those years working in a regulatory operating environment.  It would also be preferable if you have some in-house experience, however if you are adaptable and comfortable with pragmatic decision making, this is not essential.  It would be helpful if you also have an interest or experience in regulatory policy.

    As well as being a safe pair of hands, along with the eligibility to hold a NZ practicing certificate, you will be confident in and have proven capability to:

    • independently run cases without external support
    • advise, interact and receive feedback from a Complaints Assessment Committee
    • demonstrate critical thinking and have a strong attention to detail
    • evidence of a regard for diverse perspectives, ensuring the fair treatment of all people

  • Intermediate Solicitor

    About the role

    In this role you will be given the opportunity to expand your litigation experience and independently manage a caseload of tribunal cases with the support of very experienced in-house senior colleagues. You will also:

    • be responsible for providing legal advice and opinions in relation to licensing and disciplinary processes
    • due to the nature and size of REA, interact with colleagues across the organisation including the Chief Executive and Complaints Assessment Committees
    • work on a range of interesting and unique work pertaining to relevant legislation, regulations and codes
    • have plenty of opportunity to engage with external legal providers
    • contribute to policy and practice development to ensure REAs activities meet the highest possible standards

    About you

    You will have 3 years’ PQE, with experience managing litigation and/or appearing before Tribunals or Court either within private practice or an in-house environment. As well as being able to hold a NZ practicing certificate, you will also have some or all of the following:

    • a strong understanding of regulatory regimes and the machinery of government
    • experience working with legislative change and legal policy development
    • knowledge of the principles of property and public law
    • excellent communication and a collaborative working style
    • evidence a regard for diverse perspectives, ensuring the fair treatment of all people
